Opera has always been a mirror of its time – bold, emotional, and unafraid to confront the human condition. Òh!pera is an innovative educational framework driven by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Barcelona City Council, through the Disseny Hub Barcelona.
With Òh!pera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is turning that mirror toward the future. It aims to open the world of opera to emerging talents from all artistic fields: composers, librettists, stage directors, singers, musicians, lighting designers, students from design schools.
Young creators are invited to reimagine opera through short-format, multidisciplinary productions. For most participants, it’s their first time working in opera, and that’s precisely the point: stepping into the unknown with guidance, support, and the freedom to explore.
Thanks to our collaboration with the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations over the past year, where we’ve helped shape their Family Philanthropy strategy, we had the privilege of observing this event up close during last year’s edition. And this year, we’ll be back for the fourth.
The Edmond de Rothschild Family Philanthropy supports different organisations, focusing on talent development and innovative models for change in society. All their foundations and initiatives share a common belief in the power of change-makers to transform the world. And Òh!pera is one of these examples: it is much more than an artistic program. It is a framework for experimentation, learning, and access – the kind of space that unlocks potential and drives meaningful transformation.
What inspired us most is at the core of how Òh!pera bridges gaps: between disciplines, between generations, between traditional formats and new forms of expression. It opens the doors of opera – still often perceived as distant or elitist – to new creators and audiences. And in doing so, it helps renew the future of the genre itself.
The experience is demanding. Expectations are high. Participants are not just offered a creative brief; they’re given access to one of Europe’s most prestigious stages, the tools of a top-level production environment, and the chance to collaborate with experienced professionals across disciplines. This combination of excellence, trust, and mentorship creates ideal conditions for growth.
At wonnd, we deeply resonate with initiatives like this, where creative disciplines converge, where young voices are empowered, and where experimentation is given a meaningful platform. It mirrors our own way of working: multidisciplinary, collaborative, and impact-focused, always with one foot in strategy and the other in cultural relevance.
We continuously ask ourselves: How do we create the conditions for meaningful learning? How can we push the boundaries of disciplines to make space for new thinking? How do we design opportunities for talent to emerge in unexpected places?
🎟 Òh!pera is part of the official program of the Gran Teatre del Liceu and Grec Festival, running from July 25th to 27th.
Don’t miss the chance to discover the voices shaping the future of opera. Last year, we left deeply inspired. This year promises to go even further.
We’ll be there, and we hope to see you too.
